How to Connect the NXP/Freescale K70 Tower System to a Computer Using the Segger J-Link EDU with 19-pin Cortex-M Adapater o If you purchased your own J-Link EDU and 19-pin Cortex-M Adapter, you need to remove the 20-pin JTAG connector cable that came attached to the J-Link EDU and replace it with the 19-pin Cortex-M Adapter. Note that the 19-pin Cortex-M Adapter is polarized so that it can be plugged into the J-Link EDU in only the correct orientation. o Plug the ribbon cable from the J-Link EDU into header J11 on the top of the red K70 processor board. See the photos on the class website to locate the appropriate header. Note that the plug on the end of the ribbon cable is polarized in two ways: (1) with a bump in the middle of one of its sides that fits into a slot on one side of header J11 and (2) with one of the receptacles on the plug on the ribbon cable filled in so that it must mate with the missing pin in the header. o Download and install the appropriate J-Link EDU drivers from http://www.segger.com/download_jlink.html. o If using the Tower Elevators, move the three-position slide switch on the outside lower right edge of the Primary Elevator to the uppermost "USB" position. o Using the K70 USB Power cable, carefully connect the mini-B male USB plug to the USB jack on the outside lower left edge of the Primary Elevator. o Connect the A male USB plug at the other end of that black K70 USB Power cable to a USB jack on your computer. Note that in order to connect the K70 Tower System to a new Macintosh with a USB-C (also known as USB Type-C) connector (such as on a MacBook Pro), a USB 2.0 USB-C to USB Mini-B cable such as Cable Matters #201004, 3.3 foot cable can be used. Also, note that this USB power source must be able to supply 5 Volts with at least 1 AMP for some TWR-LCD-RGB modules to function correctly. o Connect the USB cable that came with the J-Link EDU -- we'll refer to this cable as the J-Link USB cable -- from the J-Link EDU to a USB jack on your computer. Note that in order to connect the J-Link EDU to a new Macintosh with a USB-C (also known as USB Type-C) connector (such as on a MacBook Pro), a USB 2.0 USB-C to USB-B cable such as Cable Matters #201002, 3.3 foot cable can be used. o Problem Sets 1 through 3 do *not* require use of the Tripp-Lite/Keyspan USB Serial Adapter or of the Adafruit 954 device. Neither device needs to be connected for these assignments.
